Deji Adeyanju, lawyer to the detained social media critic, Martins Otse, better known as VeryDarkMan or VDM has said the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is yet to reveal reason for the arrest of his client.

He made this known in a post he shared on his Facebook page on Monday night while giving an update after meeting VeryDarkMan in EFCC’s custody.

According to him, after repeated demands, the anti-graft agency said there was no petition against the social media influencer as widely reported on Monday.

Speaking via his verified social media handle, Adeyanju said, “Got into the country this evening and went straight to VDM at EFCC.

“Just left him. We still cannot understand why he was arrested. EFCC said there’s no petition against him after our repeated demand”.

Prior to this development, the BBC pidgin had reported that VeryDarkMan was arrested after the EFCC received a series of petitions against him.

The medium quoted the spokesperson of the commission, Dele Oyewale but the Commission later denied the report, triggering confusion over circumstances surrounding the arrest and detention.
