According to the governor, most of those criticising the proposed tax bill have not studied it.

While urging Nigerians not to subject the bill to politics or blackmail, he argued that it will raise more money for the government when passed into law.

He further added that the proposed bill will harmonise Nigeria’s tax system and bring prudence and decorum to the existing taxation regime.

Speaking on the tax bill, Uzodinma said: “Many of us who are criticising the tax reform bills have not even taken the time to go through the bills.

“It’s an economic bill that is meant to raise more money for the government; it’s also meant to harmonise our tax system and bring some kind of prudence and decorum to our taxation regime in the country.

“I’m of the view that people should not subject the bills to politics or blackmail; they should just look at it and see how far they can criticise or support the bill.

“I think it’s a document that has been crafted in a well-articulated manner and it deserves to be given proper attention, particularly when it’s an executive bill from the president; it shouldn’t be trivialised.”
