UPDATED: Army Chief appoints top military brass to fill gaps created by retired officers

The new Chief of Army Staff ( COAS) Major General Tapered Lagbaja has approved the reposting and appointments of top military officers as General Officers Commanding (GOC’s) and other commands and various locations/departments of the Nigerian army.

A.B. Ibrahim is appointed as the Chief Of Policy and Plans (COPP)

The new General Officers Commanding (GOCs), for some divisions of the Nigerian Army and commandant of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) were also appointed in what seems to be the military tradition of reshuffling the military when there is a change in Army, Navy and Air Force leadership. 

Under the fresh arrangement, Major General Alabi is now the General Officer Commanding (GOCs), 1 Division, Nigerian Army, Kaduna; Major General E. A Abubakar, 3 Division, Nigerian Army, Jos; Major General Mala, GOC 7 Division; Major General Chibuisi, Theatre Commander, Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai; Major General I. Ali, Multinational Joint Task Force(MNJTF).

Also appointed are Major General Ochai, Commandant, Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA); Major General Maina, Commandant Army War College Nigeria; Major General Aligbe, Commander,Training and And Doctrine Command (TRADOC), Minna; Major General Oluyede, Commander, Infantry Corps and Major General Kange, Corps Commander, Artillery.

A new Provost Marshall, Army is Brigadier General Garba while Chief of Military Intelligence is Brigadier General Ugiagbe;

The appointments became necessary due, to the gaps created by the retirement of some officers as a result of the appointment of new service chiefs by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on June 19.
