Unilorin student dies in campus car accident

Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has commiserated with Unilorin and family of students involved in the accident.

A student of the University of Ilorin (Unilorin) has died in a lone car accident on campus.

According to the spokesperson of the university, Kunle Akogun, the incident occurred on Thursday and threw the varsity into mourning.

Akogun said the accident involved a commercial minibus conveying 10 passengers out of the campus.

“As soon as it occurred, the university management immediately commenced rescue operations, and all the victims were moved to the University Health Centre to be attended to by a team of medical personnel.

“One of them needed advanced treatment and was referred to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) after he was stabilised,” he said.

Akogun noted that four students with minor injuries were treated and discharged.

“Five victims, consisting of two males, two females and the driver, are currently receiving treatment at the University Health Centre.

“Unfortunately, one of the victims was brought in dead. The body has been transferred to the morgue, and the university management is making efforts to contact the next of kin.

“The management regrets this unfortunate incident, condoles with the family of the deceased, and prays God to comfort the family, while we pray for a quick recovery of the injured victims,” he added.

Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has commiserated with Unilorin and family of students involved in the accident.

In a statement by his chief press secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, the governor said he was saddened by the incident.

AbdulRazaq wished the injured students quick recovery and prayed that God heals the family, friends and classmates of the dead the strength to bear the loss.
