ASUU, who began the ongoing strike on February 14, on Monday, August 31, turned the industrial action into an indefinite one after its National Executive Meeting

Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), the University of Lagos chapter, has denied news that it has abandoned the ongoing strike called by its national body.
The branch of the union, while debunking rumours that it has suspended the indefinite strike, also restated its commitment to the industrial action.
The UNILAG branch of ASUU made its position known on Tuesday, August 30, via a statement issued by Dele Ashiru, the Chairperson of the branch.

Ashiru, who was once a student union leader at the institution, described the action embarked upon by ASUU as a just and patriotic struggle aimed at saving the public university system in Nigeria from imminent collapse.
The statement read in part, “The attention of the leadership of ASUU-UNILAG has been drawn to a fake and dubious news purporting that ‘ASUU-UNILAG chapter gives up for the first time, votes for suspension of strike.’
“This is to inform the general public that the strike in UNILAG is still in force and there is no threat to it whatsoever.
“ASUU-UNILAG is convinced that the strike action is a just and patriotic struggle to save the public university system in Nigeria from imminent collapse.”
This development is coming after the national body of ASUU on Monday, declared an indefinite strike after its National Executive Meeting.
The strike which began on February 14, 2022, is in protest against the government’s failure to release revitalisation funds for universities, failure to release the white paper report of the visitation panel to universities and the failure to deploy the University Transparency Accountability System for the payment of salaries and allowances of lecturers.
