…Foursquare Gospel Church also suspends him

A senior lecturer at the Faculty of Arts University of Lagos, Boniface Igbeneghu, caught on a secret videotape asking an undercover BBC journalist posing as a 17-year-old admission seeker for sex has been suspended by the University of Lagos (UNILAG).

The sub-dean who is also a pastor with the Foursquare Gospel church has been stripped of all pastoral duties by the church.

Foursquare dissociated itself from the pastor in a statement on Monday, the same day the UNILAG suspended him.

The BBC said the investigation took them more than a year to execute in two universities – the University of Lagos and the University of Ghana.

In the University of Lagos, an undercover journalist with the BBC, herself a victim of sexual harassment, Kiki Mordi, posed as an admission seeker and visited Igbeneghu. Many students had fingered him as a randy lecturer.

In the secret recording, Igbeneghu was surprised that she looked bigger than her age. He told her he was a Pastor. He prayed with her. But while the prayer was going on, he frequently moved his waist like a man driven by lust.

He told her about a secret chamber in the University where lecturers take students for romantic play. He calls the place ‘Cold Room.” He then proposed that he should kiss her. He cuddled her and tried to grope her. She escaped feigning going to the toilet in his office. He allowed her. When she returned, he warned her that she must be at his beck and call.

Curiously, Igbeneghu is a pastor with the Foursquare Gospel Church Lawani, Onitiri. On his Facebook page, he said he was ordained as a pastor of the church on April 2018. His wife was ordained in May 2019.

The BBC reporters also visited his church and filmed him while preaching to faithful worshipers on a Sunday Service.

In Ghana, the BBC said its painstaking interviews with students revealed to them that Dr Paul Kwame Butakor is the man they are looking for.

A reporter who posed as a postgraduate admission seeker visited Butakor in his office. The lecturer wasted no time proposing to be her ‘side guy.’ He said he would give her a job in the university in addition to securing the admission for her. The only condition is for her to sleep with him.
