The Special Adviser to Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi, on Student Affairs, Gideon Onwe, has assured the students of the state of government’s commitment to its campaign promises.
Onwe said that the government could not embark on full implementation of its promises to the students due to the poor economy.
Onwe, who spoke in Abakaliki, urged the students to be patient with the government and assured that the government would fulfill the campaign promise when things improve.
He noted that ‘’fees payable by students in Ebonyi State University is the smallest compared to other South East states. The welfare of the students is paramount and the state government is doing everything humanly possible to ensure qualitative education in the state.
‘‘The present economic situation is so harsh that it will be very difficult to reduce the school fees of our students in the state tertiary institutions.
‘‘The students should continue to be patient with the government. They should know that the government has provided basic amenities in the university to reduce their sufferings.
He disclosed that the state government has provided adequate facilities for the state-owned tertiary institutions to improve quality learning.
‘‘Before now, there were no portable water, electricity and other amenities but all theses have been provided in the four campuses of the university under the current administration in the state’’, Onwe said.
