Minister of Works, David Umahi has said people of the South-East will not join other regions of Nigeria to protest against the economic hardship withnessed under the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
He made this known in Abakaliki on Wednesday during the stakeholders’ engagement meeting on the alignment for the Ebonyi State 101km segment of the 477km Cross River-South East-North Central-Apo Abuja 6-lane superhighway.
According to the former governor, President Tinubu’s administration is making hard decisions to restore the country’s lost glory.
He warned those who are fanning the ember of division in the country to desist from it, as it amounts to a waste of time.
Umahi added, “The present hunger that everybody is talking about, didn’t start today. It’s a build- up to several factors. Before the past administration and present administration, we have been having a build-up of insecurity, we had farmers/herders clashes over several years at a long period.
“At a time, I was the chairman of the NEC committee on resolving farmers/herders clashes. So, I went through several states especially the Northern states settling the farmers/herders clashes and it yielded several fruits.

“That problem dealt a lot of blow to food production. The issue of kidnapping, and the issue of insecurity, prevented farmers from going to their farms because here, we are talking about hunger.
“And so, you expect the administration of President Tinubu to fix all those things within nine months, it’s not possible.”
He further noted that South-East people are not endangered, and should avoid sit-at-home because of its economic sabotage and self-inflicted injury.
The minister also urged Nigerians to support the legacy projects of Bola Tinubu, explaining that the coastal highway is coming with huge economic benefits that cut across the country.
The high point of the event was the formal unveiling of the third legacy project, the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, which cuts across Ebonyi, Enugu, Benue, and Abuja.
