Umahi denies withdrawing from APC presidential contest

Umahi clarifies that he has not stepped down for Senate President Ahmed Lawan. He said he is still very much in the race for the APC presidential primary

Governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi, has denied the report that he has stepped down from the contest of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential ticket and pitches tent with Senate President Ahmed Lawan. 

Umahi made the clarification through his campaign tea after ARISE TV report claimed he withdrew from the presidential race to back Lawan, which was also erroneously picked by TheNiche

The APC presidential primary is set for tomorrow, June 6 with the leading contenders, including former Lagos State Governor, Bola Tinubu, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and ex Transportation Minister, Rotimi Amaechi.

According to chairman of the presidential screening committee of the APC, John Odigie-Oyegun, all the aspirants agreed to a consensus arrangement of picking the APC presidential candidate except one of the aspirants who said he would only support consensus if the choice is him.

Tinubu has openly rejected a consensus arrangement in picking the party’s flagbearer, insisting on going to the poll where he believes majority of the party’s governors are behind him. 

Governors from the North have also said the APC presidential flag bearer should come from the North and not the South. They also said their colleague, the Governor of Jigawa State, has withdrawn from the presidential contest.
