Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye: I used resources effectively when I was minister

Former Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, has confirmed her appearance before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to provide clarifications on financial expenditures during her tenure.
On Thursday, the anti-graft agency interrogated Kennedy-Ohanenye over allegations of N138 million fraud.
In a statement on X on Friday, she detailed her visit to the EFCC headquarters in Abuja, stating that she arrived at 2:15 p.m., began discussions at 2:50 p.m., and left by 6:50 p.m. She said she provided comprehensive explanations regarding her tenure and commended the EFCC for its professionalism.
“I commend the EFCC for their professionalism and hospitality, and I appreciate the opportunity to address the matters that have recently been circulating in the media,” she wrote.

The former minister assured her full cooperation with the commission for any further inquiries, emphasising the importance of transparency and accountability in public service.
She added that during her tenure, she managed resources prudently and even supplemented with personal funds to support initiatives under the Renewed Hope Agenda for Nigerian women and children.
“During my tenure, my team and I executed our duties diligently, utilizing available resources effectively, and even supplementing with personal funds, demonstrating our dedication to the success of the Renewed Hope Agenda for Nigerian women and children,” she said.
Kennedy-Ohanenye was among the five ministers dismissed by President Bola Tinubu in October 2024.
