UEFA postpones Arsenal’s Europa fixture against PSV

UEFA said the match will be rescheduled due to a shortage of security personnel, but the body is yet to announce a date for the new game

The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has postponed

Arsenal’s Europa League group game against PSV Eindhoven which is expected to take place at the Emirates on Thursday, September 15. 

The football body said the match could not go ahead because of the national mourning of Queen Elizabeth II, which led to shortage in the number of police personnel in London. 

The match will, therefore, be rescheduled, but It is not yet known when the encounter will now be played.

UEFA said: “UEFA today announced that the UEFA Europa League tie between Arsenal FC and PSV Eindhoven, originally to be played on Thursday 15 September, has been postponed with a new date to be communicated in due course.

“This is due to the severe limitations on police resources and organisational issues related to the ongoing events surrounding the national mourning for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.”

Arsenal defeated FC Zurich 2-1 in their first Europa League group game last Thursday, with the two goals coming from debutant Marquinhos and Eddie Nketiah. 

Meanwhile, the North London club’s opponent for the postponed match,  PSV Eindhoven, drew 1-1 at home against Bodo Glimt in their first Europa League encounter.
