Liverpool boss, Arne Slot, has confirmed that he substituted Alexander Isak at half-time during their Champions League 5-1 win over Frankfurt because the player was unable to continue the match.

He made this known on Wednesday night during his post-match conference.

Isak started the game in attack alongside fellow central striker, Hugo Ekitike. However, the Reds’ £125 million record signing was replaced during the break.

Speaking after the game, Slot told reporters that Isak had “felt his groin” during the first half. He noted that such an occurrence isn’t unusual for a player who has been sidelined for three months, adding that he hopes the injury isn’t serious.

“He (Isak) had to go off at half-time because he felt his groin a little bit, so that’s a pity,” the Dutch tactician said.

“But I’ve said it many times, it’s such a difficult balance to find with a player that missed out three months. So let’s hope for the best, but it’s not the easiest balance to find if the player’s been out for so long.”

Isak is now unlikely to be fit for this weekend’s Premier League trip to Brentford, as Liverpool seek to end a three-game losing run.
