Two securitymen charged over theft of N3.5m cable

Two security men, Mustapha Muhammed and Samson Aderinola, were on Wednesday arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, over alleged theft of cable valued at N3.5 million.

The accused, Muhammed, 29, and Aderinola, 43, whose residential addresses were not given, were docked for trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

According to the prosecutor Inspector Jimoh Joseph, the accused persons committed the alleged offences on December 16, 2017, at Goshen Estate, Lekki, Lagos.

The prosecutor told the court that the accused and one Joseph Mathew, still at large conspired and stole 75 metres of cable worth N3.5 million, belonging to the Goshen Estate, their employers.

According to him, the offences allegedly committed by the defendants contravened Sections 287 (7) and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The first defendant, Muhammed pleaded guilty to the two-count charge while the second accused, Aderinola denied the charge.

The Magistrate, Mrs. O. O. Oshin, however, granted Aderinola bail in the sum of N250,000 with one surety in like sum.

She said that the surety must be gainfully employed and must show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

As for the case of the first defendant who pleaded guilty, the Magistrate adjourned the case until February 8 for review of facts and sentencing, as well as possible trial of the second defendant.
