Senate President Bukola Saraki on Thursday made it clear that the Senate will accept for scrutiny and ratification starting from Tuesday the 2016 Appropriation Bill presented by President Muhammadu Buhari to the Joint Session of the National Assembly on December 22, 2015.
A second, apparently ammended version, later presented to National Assembly (NASS) by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Senator Ita Enang would be rejected.
Saraki made the declaration after the Senate ad hoc committee set up to investigate the claims of the missing 2016 budget delivered its report to the Senate plenary.
In the report, the investigative committee revealed that the Senate has two versions of the 2016 Appropriation Bill – one from the President and the other from the presidential liaison aide Enang.
The Senate President said further that if the Presidency wants to amend the initial version of the bill submitted to the National Assembly, there were proper legislative channels by which to do so to follow due process.
