Twitter has assured Nigerians that it is working to restore service connection in Nigeria.

In a tweet this afternoon, the microblogging app says it is deeply concerned that the Nigerian government is denying it’s citizens their basic right to information access through open internet, which is a universal right of every human being.

The Nigerian government banned Twitter on June 4, denying it’s citizens access to the open information source.

Nigerian Twitter users can only access the app via Virtual Private Network (VPN), a computer server located outside Nigeria. It comes with the disadvantage of draining their phone battery faster, and increasing data consumption.

But Twitter assures it’s Nigerian users that they will soon be able to access the platform. It did not , however, explain how.

The microblogging app may be considering the use of a network that does not rely on Nigeria’s internet infrastructure to provide access to Nigerians.

“We are deeply concerned by the blocking of Twitter in Nigeria. Access to the free and #OpenInternet is an essential human right in modern society. We will work to restore access for all those in Nigeria who rely on Twitter to communicate and connect with the world. #KeepitOn
“,Twitter says in a tweet.
