Twitter announced Friday that it is bringing a new experience to users on Windows 10.
According to the statement, the new app would leverage on Microsoft’s Progressive Web App (PWA).
The new app, Twitter says, would “bring users a better, faster and improved experience they have come to expect from Twitter.”
The app has been optimized for the Windows 10 since April 2018. Once users install the latest version, they will notice a streamlined in-app experience with a more consistent look and feel.
The new features in the new app include:
Extended character limit to 280 characters
Access to the Explore tab to find topics relevant to your interests
Ability to bookmark Tweets to be read later
Improved accessibility for a screen reader.
“This release represents a renewed commitment to Windows that has been long overdue and is part of a longer-term strategy to reach greater feature parity to all of our platforms.
We wanted to make sure the app represented a modern Twitter experience while taking advantage of unique Windows features, like support for Windows native Application Programme Interface (APIs) such as share integration, pinned tiles, jump links, and more.
“We want to continue providing our Microsoft users with the latest and greatest, and will be adding additional features like night mode, in the coming weeks and months, the company said in a statement Friday.
In 2015, the company introduced Twitter to Windows users in the Microsoft store for mobile and desktop.
On Thursday, Twitter alerted users of the presence of a bug that could reveal passwords and urged users to change their passwords “out of an abundance of caution”.
Twitter said it has since fixed the problems and did not detect any password theft after an investigation.
