Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has been receiving knocks from Nigerians after tweeting for the first time following the ban on Twitter in Nigeria.

Atiku tweeted last on June 4, the day the government announced the ban on the microblogging app in the country. He had said: “Hopefully this is not my last tweet.”

Atiku, who was the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 election, later returned to Twitter on June 12, the same day some young Nigerians say they were protesting the poor governance in the country .

Atiku tweeted: “On this Democracy Day, let us remember the labours of our heroes past.”

The tweet from Atiku got many of his followers angry because they felt he sided with the government for banning the use of Twitter.

@AbuGodMmadu said: “Anybody that thinks Atiku will be different from Buhari if he gets into power is dreaming. All of them have the same agenda. He supported the ban of twitter that’s why he has never tweeted since then. He tweeted today because Malami has denied the order persecution.”

@akpospweenz tweeted: “We the youth will never forget your silence and your role in bringing this government in power. We Dey wait you for 2023!!!”

@Chigozi58454680 said: “This man who is supposed to be the face of the main opposition party in ?? (Nigeria) is watching the govt of the day suppress democratic demonstrations with cruel force but he loves to stay mute on touchy issues that will affect his candidacy. He’s just one of the types we don’t want in 2023.”
