The world’s biggest microblogging app, Twitter, has created an emoji for the #EndSARS protest which is currently sweeping across many states in Nigeria.
An emoji is a digital image used in expressing an idea or emotions.
The emoji twitter created for the #EndSARS protest is a green white green illustration of a clinch fist which represents the freedom salute.
The #EndSARS protest has raked more tweets and retweets far more than the #BlackLivesMatter, according to a pew research.
While the #BlackLivesMatter was said to have received an average of three to four million tweets and retweets per day, the #EndSARS generated more than 30 million in the first 48 hours.
The #EndSARS emoji has excited Nigerians who have been pouring thanks to Twitter and it’s chief executive officer, Jack Dorsey.
A Nigerian tweeting with the handle @omoiyabiola said: “Nigerian youths fighting tirelessly even in the face of tyranny and oppression by the FG and @Jack supporting the cause with the new emoji is all the assurance that we’re winning this war!!! Stay strong guys, let’s not get tired of retweeting #EndSARS.”
