Nigeria’s Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong, on Thursday retired from international football.
He made the announcement in a video shared on his verified social media handle, which was tagged: “Grateful. Forever a Super Eagle.”
In the now-trending post, Troost-Ekong expressed his gratitude to Nigerians for the support shown to him while playing for the Super Eagles.

He shared the following statement:
”Playing for Nigeria has been the greatest privilege of my life. The journey may end here, but my support never will. Here’s to the next chapter.”
The defender’s retirement comes barely a few weeks before the kick-off of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament, which will take place in Morocco.
Troost-Ekong led Nigeria to a second-place finish in the last edition of the tournament held in Côte d’Ivoire.
