Tricycle operator slumps, dies, after scuffle with motorist in Ilorin

A commercial tricycle operator has been reported dead after being beaten by a man who drove a private car in Ilorin.

The incident which happened around Asa-Dam area of the town on Monday night was said to have been caused by a friction between the two people when the tricyclist hit the car.

The tricyclist whose name was given as Kola Adeyemi was said to have, with his tricycle, hit the park light of the car, a Honda Bullet from the rear.

The driver of the car, who was identified as Kayode Oluwatomi, was said to have insisted on a new park light and demanded N2, 500, as the cost

He was said to have refused to accept N2,000 which the tricyclist offered to pay insisting that the N2,500 must complete.

It was learnt that it was during the argument the disagreement between them generated that the driver beat the tricyclist.

The spokesman of Kwara state police command, Ajayi Okasanmi, confirmed the development but said what the driver did was slapping of the tricyclist and that it was after the slapping that the latter slumped and was later confirmed dead at the hospital.

“A tricycle operator, Kola Adeyemi, hit a Honda Bullet car driven by one Kayode Oluwatomi and hit one of its park lights which is valued at N2, 500. The said tricycle operator begged to pay N2,000 for the broken light which he (the driver) refused.

“Argument ensued, the driver slapped the tricycle operator and he slumped. He was confirmed dead at the Garin Alimi Hospital, Ilorin,” he stated

Okasanmi said the police command had arrested the motorist and that it would  charge him to court as soon as the investigation is completed.
