Toyin Abraham warns fellow actor Timini Egbuson to stay out of politics

Toyin Abraham cried out in 2024 after her movie, Ijakumo: The Born-Again Stripper, received poor reviews from Nigerians due to her support for Tinubu.

Nollywood actress and movie producer Toyin Abraham has counselled her colleague, Timini Egbuson, against dabbling in politics or overtly supporting any politician.

​She offered this advice recently while explaining the steps the actor needs to take if he wants his films to be box-office successes.

During their conversation, Toyin said: “The first piece of advice I will give you in my entire life is: do not get involved in politics. Do not tell them you are supporting anyone. Do not support anyone; just stay on your own. Be neutral.”

​However, when Timini questioned her about her own public support for President Bola Tinubu during the last election, she replied: “That was then.”

​She went on to admit that her decision to openly support and campaign for the President during the 2023 election had a negative impact on her.

Reflecting on how those actions affected her craft, Toyin exclaimed: “Haaaaaaa, it affected me oooo!”

​Following Toyin Abraham’s decision to  campaign for President Tinubu in 2023, some Nigerians vowed to boycott her films.

In 2024, she expressed her distress after her movie, Ijakumo: The Born-Again Stripper, received poor ratings from netizens as a backlash to her political stance.

​Lamenting the negative reviews at the time, the actress said: “You all will tell the world why choosing my own candidate is a crime and yours is not.”
