Tonto happy ever after

It was a mix of cultures and outpouring of emotions as Chief Sunny Dike gave out his beautiful daughter, Tonto Dike, a Nollywood star, to Ola Oshowo in marriage in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, last month.

The traditional marriage, which had the trappings of Igbo and Yoruba traditions, and the ‘white wedding’ which took place at the Soniville Hotel, owned by the bride’s father, drew a galaxy of stars, traditional rulers, politicians, religious leaders and yuppies.

It was also a vote for cross-cultural marriage – Yoruba and Ikwerre.

Handing over his daughter to the parents of her husband, Dike held her daughter by the hand and looked straight into the eyes of his in-law and, in an emotion-laden voice, said: “I am handing over my daughter to you. She is my beloved and I took great care in raising her and would greatly miss her constant companion. But this is a necessary rite and a sacred obligation. Take good care of her.”

Receiving the bride on behalf of his son, Bishop Dare Oshowo, thanked Dike for giving out his daughter in marriage to Ola and promised to take good care of the Nollywood star.

“We appreciate you for taking good care of your daughter, our wife, and I assure you that we will complement your good work by taking good care of her,” Oshowo said.

Dike latter blessed the new couple in a solemn ceremony.
