Presidential spokesperson and Special Adviser on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, has disclosed that the Nigerian House of Representatives has assented to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s tax reform bills after months of controversy.

He made this known on Thursday in a statement shared on his official X account without providing details on how the bills were passed.

On October 3, 2024, President Tinubu sent four tax reform bills—including the Nigeria Tax Bill 2024, the Tax Administration Bill, the Nigeria Revenue Service Establishment Bill, and the Joint Revenue Board Establishment Bill—to the National Assembly.

After the bills were transmitted to the Senate and House of Reps, the Northern Nigeria Governors’ Forum rejected the section proposing a new value-added tax derivation model in Nigeria.

The tax derivation model was equally  opposed by the National Economic Council.

However, Dare speaking via his verified social media handle, said that the controversial bills were passed by the House of Reps on Thursday after months of debate.

He tweeted, “Tax reform bills have been approved by Nigeria’s House of Representatives today in Abuja. Today, March 13, 2025.”
