Ajayi also argued that El-Rufai is trying to draw attention to himself in order to project himself as a victim of persecution.

Temitope Ajayi, Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Publicity, has attributed the recent outbursts by the former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, to a desire to create tension in the country.

He levelled the allegation against the former governor on Monday in a post shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) page.

El-Rufai recently evaded arrest by the Department of State Services (DSS) at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, upon his arrival from Egypt.

During subsequent interviews following the incident, the former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) slammed the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government for witch-hunting him.

He particularly singled out the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, as being responsible for his ordeal.

Reacting to the development, Ajayi noted that El-Rufai was seeking to divert attention from the massive corruption allegations facing him regarding his time in office in Kaduna State.

He further alleged that the former governor is trying to damage the government through deliberate misinformation.

According to Ajayi, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain is attempting to draw attention to himself in order to project the image of a victim of persecution.

Ajayi further alleged that he wants to nationalise his personal problems with his home state government, knowing that Nigerians will not side with him over corruption charges.

Speaking via his verified handle, the presidential spokesperson said: “El-Rufai has two clear intentions behind his recent actions and tantrums. One, to create political tension in the country, create an atmosphere of fear and unrest

“Two, to divert attention from his domestic problems in Kaduna State, where he is facing massive corruption allegations.”
