Bola Tinubu remains in far away London, All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman Abdullahi Adamu too was absent on Tuesday when others met in Abuja to rejig the Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) list.

A planning committee of the Tinubu/Kashim Shettima PCC) met in camera to review its growing membership list.

The meeting, chaired by Plateau Governor Simon Lalong who is also the PCC Director General, started late at APC headquarters in Abuja.

A source disclosed the agenda was on the need to properly vet the names to avoid another backlash similar to the outrage of APC Governors and National Working Committee (NWC) members when the first list was unveiled.

PCC Media and Communications Director Bayo Onanuga told The PUNCH the meeting was called by Lalong to “take another look at the list. But it is an internal meeting.

“It is just to take another look at the campaign list so people don’t complain again. That’s the agenda of the meeting.”

But neither Adamu nor any other member of the NWC attended the meeting, because, as the sourced put it, NWC members are also in the newly constituted PCC and cannot attend such a meeting unless agreed upon.

“Are they not members of the PCC? Remember that Adamu is a Deputy Chairman of the council while National Vice Chairmen of the APC are equally Deputy Coordinators and Zonal Vice Chairmen,” the source said.

“But many of them were absent at the meeting. I understand there will be a crucial meeting of the NWC tomorrow (Wednesday) to also deliberate on the list.”

Tinubu Abuja rally shelved

The inaugural meeting of the PCC committee came six days after Tinubu failed to kick off his nationwide campaign as timed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) which directed hustings should begin on 28 September.

His campaign team also called off today’s proposed solidarity march scheduled to commence from the PCC office on Herbert Macaulay Way in Central Business District to Unity Fountain in Maitama.

Tinubu’s supporters said the rally was postponed after he travelled to London for vacation.

He has announced a campaign committee of 422 members to pilot the sub-committees of the PCC to drive the strategy for victory in the 2023 vote.
