President Bola Tinubu has expressed sadness over the death of Kenya’s former opposition leader, Raila Odinga.
His condolences were conveyed on Wednesday via a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Odinga died on Wednesday in India after suffering a cardiac arrest during a morning walk at an Ayurvedic hospital. The former Kenyan Prime Minister was 80 years old, according to his family.
While reacting to his death, President Tinubu commiserated with the government and people of Kenya over his passing. He described him as a towering figure in African politics and a champion of democracy and justice.

He further praised Odinga’s lifelong commitment to national unity, democratic ideals, and his relentless pursuit of electoral reforms.
The President noted that the late opposition leader embodied the true spirit of Pan-Africanism and dedicated his life to the cause of freedom, inclusive governance, and regional cooperation.
Expressing solidarity with Kenya’s President, William Ruto, and the Kenyan people, President Tinubu said:
“His legacy will endure in the institutions he helped to shape and the democratic ideals he championed. We mourn with Kenya in this moment of national grief and stand in solidarity with you, President William Ruto, as you lead your nation through this painful chapter. May the memory of Raila Odinga continue to guide Kenya towards peace, unity, and progress.”
