Former Tottenham midfielder Tim Sherwood has admitted he is baffled by England manager Thomas Tuchel’s decision to omit Real Madrid right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold from the squad invited for the upcoming international friendlies.
The British pundit expressed his surprise during a recent guest appearance on Sky Sports.
Tuchel recently named the England squad for friendlies against Japan and Uruguay, respectively, but did not include Alexander-Arnold.
Instead, he opted for Arsenal defender Ben White, who has recently lost his place in the Gunners’ starting line-up to Jurriën Timber.

Reacting to Alexander-Arnold’s snub, Sherwood congratulated White on earning a call-up after being away from international duty for some time.
However, he added that while Tuchel’s decision caught him unawares, he respects the manager’s right to make his own choices.
“I’m shocked, but I’m pleased for Ben White,” Sherwood said during the broadcast.
He added: “Tuchel has picked twenty-seven players with White in the squad, and there is still no Alexander-Arnold.
“For me, that is incredible. I can’t understand it, but he is the manager.”
