Nominees have emerged for this year’s edition of the Best of Nollywood (BON) Awards. The announcement was made on August 1 at the Banquet Hall of the Rivers State Government House.
Niran Adedokun, head of the screening committee, said the list came out of the best of productions in Nigeria within the last 12 months.
“A total of 150 entries, out of which 23 were shot films, were received this year. These movies have produced nominees for 30 of the 32 categories. The two newly introduced categories are Best Television Series and Best Documentary,” he said.
Seun Oloketuyi, executive producer of BON, said that in the past six years, the award has been putting a golden seal of excellence on Nigerian movies and the brains behind them.
“Every year has come with its own drama and surprises, but we have remained steadfast in our set mission to reward creativity, enterprise and excellence in our beloved industry. That is why for hardworking Nollywood stars and stakeholders, today is a day of reckoning,” he said.
Chief of Staff to the Rivers State Government, Peter Okocha, who unveiled the nominees on behalf of Governor Rotimi Amaechi, described the relationship with BON as mutually-beneficial.
Hosted by actress, Bayray McNwizu, the event, which heralds the awards that plan to honour the late Nollywood icon, Amaka Igwe, this year had star actor, Fred Amata, and a host of others in attendance.
