Relationships, “situationships” and love triangles in the house, are part of the things that make the Big Brother Nigeria brand tick. These are common features in all editions of BBNaija. While some of these have had happy endings, sometimes, they get messy and boil over to the real world, after housemates might have left the Big Brother house.
Indeed, some BBNaija relationships have yielded the right results. For instance, the relationship between Neo and Vee of BBNaija Season 5, is still flourishing. In fact, Neo recently threw a very big birthday party for the love of his life. Others include relationships between Teddy A and Bambam of Season 3 (2018 ) edition and Gidoni and Khafi of Season 4 (2019) edition. Both ended in marriage and have produced kids.
Despite this happy endings, we have had very toxic relationships and love triangles that ended badly and sadly. One that will readily come to mind was that between Ike and Mercy of the Season 4 edition, that seemed destined for marriage only to break up.
Some of these relationships didn’t even make it outside the house. A lot of fans of the show will remember the very toxic relationship between CeeCee and Tobi of the the Season 3 “double wahala” edition. The relationship broke up before the show ended and the bad blood continued long after they had left the show. However, Tobi, recently married his heartthrob this year.
The 2020 Season 5 “Lockdown” edition seem to have produced the most unhealthy love triangles, some within and some outside the house. While in the house, Ozo, Nengi and Dorathy were involved in a love triangle. While Ozo was madly in love with Nengi, Dorathy wanted him badly. Though they denied the love triangle allegation, revelations at the reunion show confirmed it.
Another love triangle was the one that existed between Nengi, Ozo and Prince. It was alleged that while Ozo had his eyes on Nengi and the two were spending time together, Nengi had feelings for and preferred Prince, whom she also flirted with while she was with Ozo. This eventually strained the relationship between the two men and the no love lost was obvious during their reunion show.
There was also a love triangle after the show between Prince, TolaniBaj and Dorathy. While in the house, Prince and Tolani were an item, but when they got outside the house Prince made love advance towards Dorathy and dumped TolaniBaj. Things eventually became messy as housemates made some astonishing revelations during their reunion show.
There were other relationships that ended in controversies and bitterness. One of which is the relationship between Anto and Lolu of Season 3, which saw Anto accuse Lolu, of insecurity, because according to her, he lied he had no relationship before they got involved, only for her to discover later that he was actually dating.
Another one is the relationship between the eventual winner of the Season 3 Miracle and his then queen, Nina. Most fans of the show had concluded that the love birds will take the relationship to another level after the show, but were disappointed as they went their separate ways after the show.
The son of Benue businessman, Terry Waya, Kiddwaya, was also involved in a relationship with the beautiful Erica, who was disqualified from the show. The relationship has since broken down, with Kiddwaya rumoured to be in a relationship with Lilo, a close friend of Erica, whom he took on a tour of Europe recently.
While the relationship between Emmanuel And Liquorose and that of Saga and Nini seem the most stable in the season 6 “Shine Ya Eye ” edition, the love triangle between Saskay, Jaypaul and Cross is generating the most controversy and grabbing the headlines.
This is because Saskay has refused to commit to a relationship with Cross, whom most ladies in the house find most attractive and have declared their love interest for. He however, does not understand why Saskay has refused to accept his love advances and let Jaypaul go. Saskay, on the other hand, despite having feelings for Cross, thinks he is a playboy who may end up breaking her heart, hence her decision to keep Jaypaul, whom she found more reassuring and close.
Only time will tell what will happen to the only two healthy relationships in this year’s BBNaija outside the house. But it is certain that the love triangle between Saskay, Jaypaul and Cross is bound to continue beyond the walls of the Big Brother house, as the two gladiators shift the fight for the heart of Saskay to the outside world.
