The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has refuted a fake report circulating in the media claiming that the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, has been granted a tenure extension by the State House.

In an official statement by the National Public Relations Officer, AC Abdullahi Maiwada, signed for the Comptroller-General of Customs, states that the NCS clarified that such information is entirely false and misleading.

It emphasized that appointments and tenure extensions for the Comptroller-General position are strictly at the discretion of the President and Commander-in-Chief, in accordance with the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023 and other relevant public service regulations.

“As of now, no such directive has been communicated to the NCS by the appropriate authorities,” the statement read.

The Service reaffirmed its commitment to its core mandates of trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security under CGC Adeniyi’s leadership.

It also called on the public and stakeholders to rely only on official channels for accurate information regarding the agency.

“The NCS remains dedicated to transparency, professionalism, and national service, and any updates on appointments or tenure decisions will be formally communicated through the appropriate government authorities,” the statement concluded
