The temptations of failure (2) Luke 24:1-12, Heb 12:1-4

-

Who are those that had failed?
(1) Eve failed. Genesis 3:6-7 tells us that Eve and her husband, Adam, failed. And because of their failure, they changed the destiny of the world.

(2) Noah failed. Genesis 9:20-24 tells us that an old man called Noah failed. His failure ended up in a curse of slavery on his grandson Canaan – slavery that has come through the world and ended up in Africa. The bible says that “Noah, towards the end of his life, planted a vineyard and after the grapes had fermented, he drank them and became drunk and was naked and his son, Ham, saw his father naked and started laughing at his father’s nakedness. He told his brothers, Japhet and Shem, and then they walked to the back and covered Noah’s nakedness. But when Noah woke up and realised that Ham had embarrassed him in his drunken state, he cursed Canaan, the son of Ham, that he would be a slave for his brothers. Ham is the progenitor of the black man. And from that day, the black people had been under this curse of failure. Five minutes of drunkenness, and a whole generation under a curse.

(4) Lot failed. In Genesis 19:13-38, Lot failed and created a generations of tyrants, Moab and Ben-Ammi, the father of the Ammonites who became terrors to the Israelites. Ten minutes of act of failure, 10 minutes of sex with his two daughters, he laid a foundation of future wars.

(5) Eli failed. The Bible says that Eli failed and his generation was cursed from peace and power.

(6) Saul failed. The Bible says that Saul failed and he took all his generation of kingship out of Israel and destroyed his grandchildren.

(7) Solomon failed and he divided the kingdom despite all the wisdom that he had before. Solomon lived most of his life a wise man, and towards the end, he began to follow strange women and he failed. He ended up to be the biggest failure, even in the Bible.

(8) Gehazi failed and founded a generation of lepers.

(9) Judas Iscariot failed. He hung himself and turned his very name into a curse.

People have failed Nigeria and Nigeria is in so much chaos and turmoil. Some great grandfathers have failed their children and all of a sudden the whole family is under a curse. A lot of us are suffering from failures of the past. You must not fail.

How do you ensure that you do not fail?

1. You must get born again. Anyone who is not born again has failed already. Anyone who is not born of water and the Spirit has already failed, because you have not followed the path of life, laid down for you by God.

2. You must fear God. If you are born again and do not fear God, you have failed. Let the fear of God be greater than your desires.

3. Have you goals set, you have to know your purpose according to the will of God. Know where God is taking you to: the Bible says that “our Lord Jesus Christ who for the grace that was set before, he endured the cross”. It is difficult to achieve what you do not know. You need to know what God has set out for you.

4. There must be no sin in your life. You must live your life in total obedience to God. When you sin, you break the edge of protection around you. Don’t sin, obey God, follow Him till the end, the devil will put temptation in your way because that is his job, but you must stand.

In Matthew 10:22, the Bible says “he that endures till the end, the same shall be saved”.

5. If you sin, you have to admit your sin; confess it to God. Repent of that sin; don’t cover it up. Ask God for forgiveness and start all over again. Pay your tithes and get back to God.

6. Be determined to succeed at any costs.
