TCN tasks Customs over abandoned  containers at Seaport

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has alleged that 200 out of its 800 containers abandoned at the port had been auctioned by the Nigerian Customs Service.
Managing Director of the electricity  firm, Alhaji Usman Mohammed, said the containers were laden with power -generating equipment which have been at the port for the past 15 years.
He noted that 697 of these containers were recovered last week and taken delivery of by the company.
He further assured that the auctioned containers were recovered as the power generating company is currently on the move to track down the buyers of the auctioned containers.

“We were able to recover 693 containers as of last week, out of a total of 800 containers that have been in the ports. Some of these containers have been there for 15 years; others have been auctioned and we had to trace the auctioneers to get the containers.

“The government is supporting us. And with the same way they are supporting us, I know that as they have beamed their searchlight on the distribution companies, they are going to solve the problems with power distribution,”he disclosed.

He acknowledged the support of the federal ministry of power and the federal government which gave the necessary support to his company, adding that the government was now set to solve the problems in the distribution arm of the power sector.

The TCN boss stated that the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, had given the approval for TCN to manage the N72 billion planned investment in the Discos.

He further disclosed that the Federal Government had approved for the TCN to anchor the N72 billion investment, which the government planned to invest in the 11 electricity
