The Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion has urged the Federal Government to tactically handle the Niger Delta Avengers so as to avoid further destruction of properties and facilities.
The militants recently increased attack on oil installations which have reportedly resulted in a drop of daily crude oil production output from 2.2 million barrels to less than 1.5mbpd.
The church also condemned the N940m earmarked for grazing in the 2016 budget by the federal government, which it said smacked of discrimination and favoritism of one tribe over the other.
It made the calls in a communique issued at the 6th Synod of the Dioecese Ekiti West, held in Aramoko Ekiti and obtained by our correspondent.
Expressing sadness by the spate of brutal killings of innocent Nigerians by the Fulani herdsmen, the Synod called on “the Federal Government to immediately bring this mindless killings to a halt.”
Two persons died from an attack carried out on Oke Ako, a town in Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti by men suspected to be Fulani herdsmen, while three others are still receiving treatment in hospitals.
It charged “parents, school authorities and even the church to continue to play active role in mentoring of the youth and young children leading to a decrease in moral decadence in the nation which is the bedrock for sexual offences of various degrees.”
“Synod enjoins government to immediately inject palliative measures into the economy as an immediate panacea for mitigating the severe hardship that the large masses of Nigerians are experiencing in the wake of the increase of the petroleum products, which has led to increase in price of virtually necessities.”
The Synod said it was disturbed by the rise in the spate of sexual offences against children and gender based violence resulting in murder between spouses.
It, however, commended the efforts of the federal government and the military personnel in the success recorded to combat the menace of Boko Haram in the North East.
