Sylvester Oromoni was allegedly attacked by senior students of Dowen College, where he reportedly sustained internal injuries that resulted in his death.

Over 100,000 Nigerians have signed an online petition to prosecute the perpetrators of the dastardly crime.

The Lagos State government has since shut down the school, while the police have also commenced investigation into the matter.

On Monday, the family of the late Buruji Kashamu, former Ogun Senator, whose son, Michael, was named as one of the five students at Dowen College, culpable in the beating that led to the death of Sylvester, accused social media of stalking the family.

Breaking their silence on the matter, the family, represented by Mutairu Kashamu, while confirming Michael as their son and a student of the College, spoke of how their ward maintained his innocence after “careful” questioning.

Though he was said to have admitted playing the role of a school father to the deceased in the last school session, he was said to have explained that their relationship was affected after he, Michael, was moved to another floor in the boarding hostel.

In a statement entitled Dowen College Student’s Death: Kashamu’s Family Empathises With The Bereaved…Calls For Thorough Investigationthey complained what they tagged cyber-stalking of the family, accusing the social media.

Meanwhile, the Oromoni family has hired the human rights lawyer and activist, Femi Falana, to prosecute the case against the school.

Falana has also demanded a Coroner’s inquest into circumstances surrounding Sylvester’s death.

In a letter dated December 6, 2021, sent to the Chief Coroner of Lagos State, Justice Mojisola Dada, Falana, who said he has been briefed by Sylvester Oromoni’s family, said the circumstances leading to the death of the boy demands that the inquest be conducted.
