Bola Tinubu has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to suspend Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele for the shoddy implementation of the new naira policy which has thrown the country into further chaos and misery.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate buttressed his demand with the ruling at the Supreme Court on Wednesday which temporarily stopped plans to end the use of old naira notes on 10 February.

Tinubu made the call through APC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) spokespersons Bayo Onanuga and Femi Fani-Kayode.

He claimed the redesign of N200, N500, and 1,000 banknotes was planned by Emefiele and other government officials sabotage his electoral victory.

“The Nigerian people have won in the battle to make Godwin Emefiele and his CBN see the reason that their 10 February swap deadline is grossly unreasonable and is sheer madness. And it is time for President Buhari to suspend this fumbling governor from office,” Onanuga said.

Tyranny and abuse of public officials

Fani-Kayode stressed the courts are the last hope of the common man when faced with the tyranny of public officials, via reporting by Nairametrics.

“For this,” he said, “we thank firstly the Supreme Court who have not only displayed remarkable insight and sensitivity in this matter and courageously risen to the occasion but who have also proved that the courts really are the last hope of the common man when faced with the tyranny of abusive & cruel policies & insane officials.

“We must also thank my three dearest friends & brothers, men of courage & conviction all, who took the FG to court. They are, Gov. Yahaya Bello of Kogi, Gov. Bello Matawalle of Zamfara & Gov. Nasir El Rufai of Kaduna.”

The Supreme Court ruling was delivered by a seven-member panel, led by Justice John Okoro, based on an exparte application brought by Kaduna, Kogi, and Zamfara – all three states ruled by the APC.
