Suspected bandits kidnap Kebbi deputy speaker, Samaila Bambu

Bambu was allegedly abducted shortly after observing his evening prayers and leaving the mosque for his residence.

The Deputy Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Hon. Samaila Bambu, has been abducted by gunmen in his hometown in Bagudu Local Government Area of the state.

​His kidnap was confirmed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ahmed Idris.

​According to a resident familiar with the incident, some gunmen stormed the town on Friday evening and started shooting sporadically.

​The source further added that Bambu was abducted shortly after observing his evening prayers and leaving the mosque for his residence.

​While speaking on the development, Idris said the Kebbi State government has received information about the incident and was awaiting a full briefing from the state’s Director of Security.

​“Yes, I just got the information about the alleged abduction of the Deputy Speaker in his hometown this evening. I am in touch with the Director of Security in the state. Once I get the details of what transpired, I will alert you very soon on the government’s position,” he said.

​He added that the state government was on top of the situation and making efforts to ensure the lawmaker’s safe release.
