The Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Peter Obi, has charged the students of Rev. Fr. Ekwu Memorial Secondary School, Owerre Ezukala to face their studies seriously.
He reminded them that what they would become in future was directly proportional to their efforts today.
Obi gave the advice during his visit to the school yesterday.
Obi, who recalled that he visited the school three years ago, when the school was just starting, said that the current visit was in fulfillment of his promise to them that he would come again to evaluate their progress and encourage them not to relent.
Obi also reminded wealthy Nigerians that the society gains much from support to worthy causes that would enrich it such as support to education than spending billions of Naira on activities such as burials and naming ceremonies, which, he noted some Nigerians take as status symbols.
The highlight of the visit was the presentation of a cheque of N1 million to the school for continued infrastructure improvement.
On behalf of the students, the Senior Prefect, Miss Ajegbo Nkiruka Prisca, thanked the former governor and described him as the greatest inspirator to school children. “Your Excellency”, she said, “you may not understand the positive effects your visits to schools have on the psyche of students.”
Obi, who was received by the Manager of the school, Rev. Fr. Felix Anajekwu, and the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Joachim Ezeani, was accompanied by Prof. Stella Chinyere Okunna.
