-

Nigeria’s Super Falcons beat hosts Côte d’Ivoire’s Lady Elephants 1-0 in Abidjan after an Esther Okoronkwo goal to qualify 3-0 aggregate for the 2022 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) in Morocco.

The win at the Robert Champroux Stadium means the Super Falcons completed a double over the Lady Elephants and sealed an astonishing 12th WAFCON appearance.

There were no goals in the first half, but Francisca Ordega had a goal ruled out before Chiamaka Nnadozie pulled off a stunning save to deny the Ivorians.

Following their victory in Abuja last Friday, the Nigerian girls stunned the Ivorians with an 88th minute strike at the Stade Robert Champroux in Abidjan to win 3-0 on aggregate, thanks to resolute defending and goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie keeping out a spot kick.

With the 2-0 win recorded over the Ivorians at the MKO Abiola Stadium last Friday, the nine-time African champions booked their spot with an aggregate 3-0 win.-

Barcelona striker, Asisat Oshoala, missed the encounter through injury, but the victory is sweet revenge over the Lady Elephants, who ousted the Falcons on the road to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Super Falcons have won the Women’s Nations Cup a record-breaking nine times and will now be gunning for an unprecedented tenth title in North Africa later in the year
