Sununu quits Tinubu’s cabinet

of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Yusuf Tanko Sununu, resigned on Monday to pursue a political career in Kebbi State.

Confirming his resignation, Sununu said he stepped down in line with the country’s rules for political office seekers.


Sununu’s resignation comes barely 24 hours after minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar resigned from the cabinet of President Bola Tinubu to contest the governorship election of Bauchi State.

Sununu who was a former federal lawmaker, represented Shanga, Yauri, and Ngaski Federal Constituency, is reportedly planning to contest for the Kebbi South Senatorial District seat in the 2027 elections.


Sununu previously served as Kebbi State Minister of Education before being redeployed to the Humanitarian Affairs Ministry. He is credited with impactful social projects in the state under both appointments, contributing positively to the lives of residents.
