Sultan announces date for Eid el-Kabir

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, on Friday, September 2, announced that Muslims would observe the Eid el-Kabir on Monday, September 12. In a statement signed by the Chairman, Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs at the Sultanate Council in Sokoto, Sambo Junaidu, the committee together with the Moon Sighting Committee, received reports from various committees in Nigeria over the Eid el-Kabir. Junaidu said, “this followed the declaration of Saturday, September 3, as the first Zulhijja, 1437 AH.” Having accepted the committee reports the sultan further declared the Eid el-Kabir day, Junaid said. He further said, Monday, September 12, – the tenth Zulhijja – will be marked as 2016 Eid el-Kabir.

The Sultan also congratulated all Muslims in Nigeria, he wished them Allah’s guidance, protection and blessings while admonishing Muslims to pray to a continuous reign of peace, progress and development in Nigeria. Meanwhile, the Nigeria Law and Drug Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrested a 55-year-old woman for testing positive to narcotics. The woman, Basira Binuyo, was arrested at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Abuja during security screening of passengers of a flight to Medina, Saudi Arabia through Dubai. Binuyo, the authorities said excreted 76 pallets of cocaine and will be kept under observation until all substances she swallowed are expelled. .Naij.com
