Spittler unveils Rwanda’s provisional squad for Super Eagles’ 2025 AFCON qualifier

Rwanda head coach, Thorsten Spittler has named a provisional 36-man squad for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Nigeria and Libya.

The German tactician picked a squad dominated by players plying their trade in the Rwanda Premier League.

The biggest star among the players unveiled is Emmanuel Imanishimwe, who plays as a defender for Cypriot club, AEL Limassol.

Spittler is, however, expected to reduce the squad before AFCON qualifiers kick off next month.

The Amavubi will face Libya at the Tripoli Stadium on Wednesday, September 4 before hosting the Super Eagles at the Amahoro Stadium on Tuesday, September 10.

Super Eagles are in Group D of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers along with Benin Republic, Rwanda and Libya.

This follows a draw held in South Africa on Thursday, July 4, 2024 to map out the road to Morocco in 2025.

The draw featured 48 countries divided into 12 groups of four teams each, with the top two teams from eleven groups qualifying directly for the finals scheduled from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026.
