Son of ex-ICPC boss, Akanbi, emerges VC of new Kwara varsity

A professor of  Business Law  at the University of Ilorin and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Mohammed Akanbi, has been appointed the new Vice Chancellor of Kwara State University, Malete.

Akanbi who is about 50 years old is son of the late former president of the Court of Appeal to and former chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC), Mustapha Akanbi.

He is being appointed as the second substantive Vice Chancellor of the 11-year-old university after expiration of the two-term tenure of the pioneer Vice Chancellor, Professor Abdulrasheed Na’Allah, and a reign of an acting Vice Chancellor for about six months.

Akanbi’s appointment was announced on Wednesday by the Kwara State Commmissioner for Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Sa’adatu Moddibo Kawu.

The commissioner, in a statement, said the state Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq, approved the appointment after accepting recommendation of the Governing Council of the University.

The new Vice Chancellor had his LL.B from the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Osun State in 1997. His LL.M follows at the Lagos State University. Subsequently, he obtained his Ph.D from King’s College, London between 2004-2006.

He rose from lecturer II to become a professor of law in 2012 at the University of Ilorin.
