Solomon Dalung, Mahdi Shehu accuse FG of sponsoring attack against Peter Obi over borehole donation

-

By Ishaya Ibrahim

Amid recent reports by the United Nations that an estimated 179 million Nigerians have no access to potable water, a barrage of attacks has been directed at Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi over a borehole he donated in a community in Zaria, Kaduna State.

Obi has donated dozens of boreholes in Plateau, Kaduna, Kano, Kebbi and other communities in the North.

A particular borehole in Zaria, Kaduna State, became the centre of attack as some say it is not beautiful. Others say it’s not grand.

The trolls sustained the attack against Obi for days with no plans of relenting.

Among the trolls are Bashir Ahmad, Japhet Omojuwa, Deji Adeyanju and many others.

A former Sports Minister, Solomon Dalung, rose up in defence of Peter Obi.

He posted via his X handle, @SolomonDalung: “Gaslighting a peaceful soul @PeterObi committed to selfless service to humanity is evil by google definition. As a revolutionary democrat, I hold the balance in defence of victims of state sponsored attacks. Having robbed him, they are determined to hound him to political exile.”

A social activist, Mahdi Shehu, stated via his X handle, @shehu_mahdi that the APC sponsored the attack.

He said: “Funnily APC failed Stalwarts are all-over the media complaining on the quality of boreholes donated by Peter obi in some parts of the North. Atleas, he has done that not as part of constituency projects. Nor does he control any vote. This is at a time when most of those complaining of Obi’s donation have not visited their constituencies since after the last elections. Those complaining are the same empty vessels that are busy stealing and diverting budgetted and appropriated funds. It is an extreme case of shamelessness for any APC member to complain of Obi’s generosity and magnanimity. Well done, Peter Obi.”
