Some social media influencers are pushing for former governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, to be the sole candidate of the Igbo in the 2023 presidential election.
Okorocha, now a senator, has sought the office of president in 2007 on the platform of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), but lost the ticket to Muhammadu Buhari, who also lost at the main election.
The contention for the South East to produce the next president is high, a possible reason the scheming for who should be the candidate of the Igbo has already commenced.
On Twitter, a hashtag #RochasOkorocha has been trending with many commentators arguing why they think the former Imo governor is the right person.
@___Damsel said: “Guys #RochasOkorocha has proved beyond reasonable doubt that he’s capable with his policies during his tenure as Imo State Governor.”
@UTDSommy added: “I think #RochasOkorocha is a good Presidential candidate but the only problem is the disunity among igbos.”
@AdaMbano said: “2023: #RochasOkorocha Remains South East’s Best Choice.”
@Pet4luv also said: “Seeing the national popularity of #RochasOkorocha today, I can’t be any less proud of my conviction that he will be president of Nigeria someday.”
@aburo_stone_:”Rochas is becoming a recognized face of Southeast. Things I love to see. #RochasOkorocha.”
@Nature_Naija said: “In fact, Even if Nigeria asks the Igbos to bring a candidate, they still will have problem coming to a consensus on who exactly to present. The Igbos should put their political house in order. It is not everything that about them being marginalised by anybody. #RochasOkorocha.”
@DeeTwoGd said: “A house divided against itself can’t stand; that is the summary of the problem the Igbo presidency clamour is facing. #RochasOkorocha.”
