Popular Afrobeats singer, Niniola Apata, known professionally as Niniola, has said witnessing the assassination of her father, Simeon Apata, a retired Nigerian Army Brigadier-General, was traumatising.
She made this known while revisiting the tragic incident in a recent interview with Jay On Air.
The retired general was killed by gunmen on January 8, 1995, in Lagos, in the presence of his family.
Recounting what transpired on the day, Niniola said it is hard for her to get over it because she was her late father’s favourite child.

Speaking during the chat, she said, “I was in the house when my dad was murdered. And I was his favourite child so you can imagine [the trauma]. Till today, I’m not over it. I can never get over it.”
She went on to say she could not remember her exact age when the incident took place.
The 38-year-old artist added, “I was very young when it happened. I don’t remember my exact age then but it wasn’t a good memory.”
In 2023, Niniola’s sister, Teni, who is also a singer, said watching her dad’s assassination at the tender age of two was devastating.
