Nigerian singer, Akinbiyi Abiola Ahmed better known as Bella Shmurda has made a case for why people go into internet scams known in some quarters as ‘Yahoo Yahoo’.
Bella Shmurda aired his view about the topic in a chat with ‘Onejoblessboy’ on ‘echooRoom’ podcast, where he argued that the harsh economic climate in Nigeria forced a lot of people into internet fraud.
According to the fast-rising singer, many of these ‘Yahoo Boys’ are neither happy nor proud of what they do but the need to make money and make ends meet lures them.

When asked if he had ever participated in the act, Shmurda neither affirmed nor denied, he, however, continued to justify the act.
He said, “Hmm…Hmm! Hmm! Hmm!! What is internet fraud? Well, at a point in your life, you have to do certain things. It’s just…you know, it’s nature. E go carry am come. You understand? So, that’s it for that”
Continuing, the ‘CashApp’ crooner added: “Okay, I didn’t say I didn’t do it though. But basically, shout out to everybody because they’re all looking for ends meet. So, you can’t just blame anybody
“This part of the world where we find ourselves is messed up. For you to make it, you have to do some things that even some people won’t caution you because they know how e dey go, you understand?
“And it’s so painful that you just have to get money somehow. It’s not everybody’s wish. Even people that got money through that means, some of them are not happy with it, for real.
“So, it’s so painful. It’s not something to be proud of but you just have to make it. Things are going funny.”
Bella Shmurda further asserted that the need to provide for one’s kids is another factor that has prevented some from quitting the crime, saying the children would end up querying their parents for not going into such a venture if they ended up in penury.
“You can’t have kids and be telling your kids that, “When people dey get money this way, you, you no do am” what kind of explanation is that?
“Yes, we are growing up, we have kids. And to some certain level, if they see that things are somehow, they ask you say, “Papa, when people dey make money, where you dey?”
“You can’t say because you don’t want to do this one. That’s a lame excuse, mehn!” he further said.
