Ace singer and actor, Bankole Wellington, popularly known as Banky W, has won the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket of the House of Representatives ticket for Eti-Osa Federal constituency.
Banky W, a newcomer into Nigeria’s politics, had first taken a shot at the House of Reps of Eti Osa Federal Constituency on the platform of the Modern Democratic Party (MDP) in 2019. He made a strong showing in the election but lost to a stronger political party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The primary of the House of Reps election was held today with an initial report speculating that he lost. But a video of the vote count shows that Banky W, who was physically at the venue, won the primary election of the PDP.

The music star won with twenty-eight votes while his closest opponent scored three votes.
Banky W had announced in April this year that he would be seeking the House of Reps seat of Eti Osa.
He had said: “We must engage with Nigeria where it is, not where we prefer for it to be. In 2019, we planted the seed. In 2023, by the grace of God, and with your support, we will win the seat. The time for just talking is over. It’s time to #TalkAndDo. I hope I can count on you. We move.”
