Atletico Madrid boss, Diego Simeone, has suggested UEFA aided bitter rivals, Real Madrid to beat his team during a recent Champions League round of 16 match.

He made this known while speaking with reporters after his team drew 1-1 with Espanyol on Saturday in a La Liga match.

Simeone, who seems still furious about Julian Alvarez’s spot-kick which was ruled out for a double touch during the European fixture, argued that the football body “decided” their Champions League loss to Real Madrid.

According to the Atletico boss, his compatriot was unfairly penalised during the penalty shootout.

The incident proved crucial as Simeone’s team crashed out of the tournament, while Real Madrid progressed to the quarter final where they will meet English Premier League (EPL) club, Arsenal.

Speaking after the league game on Saturday, Simeone said, “We did very well in the Champions League; we competed well, we won the second leg [at home].

“We finished as UEFA had decided. We won and we were eliminated.

“I don’t consider it a blow. What happened was very clear.”
