Human rights activist and former federal lawmaker, Shehu Sani, has described the recent visit of the 2023 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar to former President, Muhammadu Buhari as ‘trekking in the Sahara’.

TheNiche had earlier reported that the former Vice President visited Buhari on Saturday at his residence in Daura, Katsina State.

Atiku was accompanied by the immediate past Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, alongside other PDP stakeholders.

Speaking to journalists at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International Airport, Katsina after the visit, Atiku said: “First of all, I paid Sallah homage to former President Muhammadu Buhari and the Emir of Daura, Dr. Umar Farouk Umar.

“Secondly, I came to Katsina on a condolence visit to the Emir of Katsina over the death of his son, and the wife of the late Lawal Kaita. This is the reason why I came to Katsina.”

Reacting to Atiku’s comment, Shehu Sani said his visit to Daura was okay if it was truly to pay Sallah homage to the former president and All Progressives Party (APC) chieftain.

The former senator, however, said it’s like trekking in the Sahara, if it was a political mission.

Taking to his X handle on Sunday, Shehu Sani tweeted: “If the Daura visit is a sallah homage, that’s okay. If it’s a political mission, it’s like trekking in the Sahara.”
