Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, has alleged that there is a plot to influence the state House of Assembly of the state to remove him from office.

He made this known on Saturday, during a press conference in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT)

According to him, the scheme was intensified after he was elected as a factional candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) for the upcoming November governorship election in the state.

TheNiche had earlier reported that Shaibu was announced as the winner of a governorship primary conducted by a faction of the PDP in Edo State.

He was said to have won the contest with over 301 votes.

However, in another primary conducted after the primary that declared the deputy governor as winner, the returning officer and Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal announced Asue Ighodalo as the winner of the PDP delegate election, having polled a total of 577 votes.

Speaking on the plot to impeach him after the two primaries, Shaibu said: “Even as we speak, my team has been calling me that, ‘Look at what these people are doing. They are saying they are going to impeach you; that you have gotten too far.’ They are threatening to impeach me.

“And I said, well, if fighting for my rights and all of us collectively fighting for my rights as in the constitution, triggers impeachment, so be it, because fighting for my rights and saying I must contest the election is my constitutional rights and cannot be taken by anybody.

“So if constitutional right is why they will now trigger impeachment, the courts are there; they will interpret it.”
